The latest edition of The Boardroom introduces Chris Thompson, one of our “Founding Fathers.” Get to know Chris a little better by reading his story.
Ruth Thompson and I have been married for more than 30 years. Working with individuals in the Adults with Developmental Disability community has long been a passion of her’s. Truly, this is Ruth’s ministry. One morning, Ruth work up and told me she had a dream. She dreamed of a cafe or restaurant where Adults with Developmental Disabilities can work.
God speaks in mysterious ways.
God talks to us all the time. You just have to hear Him. Open your heart and hear Him.
“Listening” is not one of the things that I do particularly well. God made sure I heard. He shouted at me; “Open your heart and do this!” God did not say; “Do this if it is convenient. Do this if it is easy. Do this if it is safe.” He said; “Do this.” Yes Father, I will.
I believe that all men are brothers. Regardless of what we look like on the outside, we all have the same needs – acceptance, a sense of community, a sense of self-worth, a sense of self value.
We all need an opportunity to fulfill those needs.
I’ve been volunteering for years at the Special Needs Cooking Classes. These are some of the most welcoming, nonjudgmental people you’ll ever find. These are good folks. They have the same needs that everyone has.
I’m going to help them meet those needs. I’m going to help build Hugs Café and you can join us too.
