What is Hugs Home Cooking?
Hugs Home Cooking is a monthly group cooking class led by a classically trained chef that provides a place to build social skills and develop independent cooking capabilities. Many students find this class to be an engaging setting to cook and taste new foods while making friends.
About Our Classes
We currently offer two class times on the second Fridays of the month at the Hugs Headquarters facilities located at 221 Andrews St. in McKinney, TX.
Class Times:
- 9:00am – 11:00am
- 11:30am – 1:30pm
Classes meet monthly throughout the year.
Cost
The cost is $120 per semester due on the first class of class in January, May and September. Scholarships are available.
Access
The kitchen is set up to minimize physical barriers, giving students access to all equipment. This allows the Hugs Home Cooking students to learn culinary skills in a real commercial kitchen! The recipes and instructions are given with pictures and technical language is explained with care. Finally, the class is taught with a 1 to 2 ratio of instructor/volunteer to students to ensure each student has significant guidance and gentle encouragement as they build their skillset.
Our Students
The students of Hugs Home Cooking have a desire to learn how to cook and taste new recipes in a fun, hands-on social setting. Applicants will need to be able to read a simple recipe, distinguish between safe and unsafe actions in a kitchen and listen to instruction from a chef.

About Our Chef
Chef David Pomponio is a Culinary Institute of America Alumnus who spent over 45 years in the food service industry with Marriott, Sodexo, and Waypoint. In the past he has served in roles as Corporate Dining GM, Area Chef for North Texas and Oklahoma, and was an adjunct professor at Collin College. Chef David is a dedicated Hugs Cafe Inc. volunteer who teaches our monthly Hugs Home Cooking classes.
