What is Hugs Training Academy?
With over 6 years of employment and job carving success, we have taken our vocational training beyond those we currently employ. We have expanded Hugs Café, Inc. to now include Hugs Training Academy; an educational training center for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who seek to be employed in the food service and hospitality industries.
About Our Classes
Hugs Training Academy serves ages 14 and above.
Classes are held at Trinity Presbyterian Church in McKinney until we raise the funds to build our permanent training facility.

The cost to attend the Hugs Cafe Inc. Training Academy is $2,750 per semester.
The Curriculum
The Hugs Training Academy curriculum is focused on providing entry level skills to students so they are ready to enter the workforce in the culinary or hospitably fields. Subject covered at Hugs Training Academy include:

Our Instructors
Hugs Cafe Inc. is thrilled to announce Betsy Leal as the lead teacher for our Training Academy. Her 15+ years of adaptive learning experience will help us to create an inclusive curriculum to meet the many abilities in our community. Betsy is supported by our Teacher Assistants, with a combined 120 years of teaching experience.
Days and Times
Front of the House will be taught on Mondays and Wednesdays. Back of the House will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Class will begin and 10am and end at 3pm each day.

Semester Schedule
Semester 1: March 14th – May 27th (12 weeks)
Semester 2: June 6th – August 13th (10 weeks with added Friday classes)
Semester 3: August 22nd – November 10th (12 weeks)Â
*September 5th class moved to September 9th in observance of Labor Day. October 10th class moved to October 14th in observance of Columbus/Indigenous People’s Day

Step 1 Fill out Hugs Training Academy Application below
Step 2 Be contacted by a member of the Hugs team to schedule an in-person assessment and student interview
Step 3 Complete in-person assessment and student interview. Provide necessary supporting documents as communicated by the Hugs Team. Â
Step 4 If accepted, set date for financial meeting to discuss payment options
Step 5 Complete payment option meeting
