We did it, we finally did it!

July 19th 2014 will go down as one of the most significant events in the history of Hugs Cafe.  For nearly 9 months we anxiously awaited word from the IRS on our non-profit status application.  It was like college applications all over again:  Apply, wait, check the mail, wait, check the mail again, make a phone call, send an email, wait, check the mail… the cycle continues.  After all the waiting, the day is finally here and we can officially say it,

We’re approved!

I know I speak for the entire board when I say that we could not be more excited.  This means that Hugs Cafe is not just a dream, but a reality.  It’s happening.  It’s finally happening!

Now, it is time to move forward; build a website, raise funds, find a location, staff the café and to give some very deserving adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities a chance to work, seek independence, and be productive members of the community.

We’re coming to the city of McKinney and we’ll be here before you know it.  Keep an eye out for more posts and updates from your new friends at Hugs Cafe.
